The Peace in Public Lands

The Great Outdoors.

Those three words bring to mind a vast array of emotions to different people.  They could invoke memories of a mesmerizing sunset on the peak of a mountain, the breathtaking roar of a waterfall ten miles from the nearest road, or the flowery aroma of a spring rain.  No matter what those words bring to one’s mind, most outdoor enthusiasts eventually come to one term:

With the recent passing of the Great American Outdoors Act by the U.S. House of Representatives, that freedom to enjoy our public lands and parks by all citizens is well on it’s way to being assured for our future generations.  This is very important, because having public lands provides an outlet for Americans to escape the rigors of everyday life.  We can get a quick trail run in for exercise before work.  We can take the family on a weekend camping trip after a particularly stressful work week.  We can float our kayak on a lazy river after paying the bills.  Troubled youth organizations can take their teens on weeklong backpacking trips to build leadership, survival skills, positive reinforcement. Needless to say, there is peace to be found in our public lands by any American, regardless of their background.

Now go find your peace, whatever it may be, at your nearest state park, national forest, or local wildlife management area.  Chase that sunset, seek that waterfall, smell that spring shower. Public lands are here for those purposes.  There’s no holding us back.

Go enjoy the Great Outdoors!
